Observation tower Papenberg
Do you want to see Castricum from a great height? Then come and see it from the watchtower near the Papenberg. There's plenty to see when you're on top! First climb the stairs with 149 steps and you are already at a good height.
Climbing those grand stairs is a fun and challenging ordeal for young and old. If you climbed up, you can already see the watchtower! Now just a few more steps and you will be rewarded with a beautiful view such as Heemskerk, Uitgeest, Egmond aan Zee, Marquette and the Hoogovens.
The watchtower is easily accessible from Castricum train station. Just past Huis van Hilde you will come across the grand staircase. You can look far from the tower, on one side you see Castricum and on the other side you see the dunes.
The Papenberg used to be used as a viewpoint when there was no forest formation yet. This watchtower was chosen to restore the Papenberg. The shape of the watchtower is made like a wave to symbolize the dune landscape with the influences of water and wind.
