A short stroll, or a good long walk with an historic theme: we've set out a number of routes to help you on your way! Don't forget to bring your North Holland Dune Reserve pass. You receive your passes upon arrival.
NS- walk NH dune reserve 15KM
From Castricum station to Egmond aan Zee
One of the very best NS-walks for all who love nature. Woodland, open fields and dunes offer lots of variation. On the way you may meet many animals, from Highland cows to Konik horses. The stunning route meanders through high grassy dunes and deep valleys. Just when you think you've seen it all, the beach and the sea offer a spectacular finale to this route.
Route Description
The route finishes at Egmond aan Zee. Take the coach from Egmond aan Zee to Alkmaar train station. You'll find timetables on the Journey planner
Horse riding with riding school Heemskerk
There is no better way to discover the North Holland dune reserve than on horseback. In collaboration with riding school Heemskerk, Bosritten are organized during the camping season. You will be accompanied by an experienced rider from the Manege.
In the summer season from April to September it is only possible to take a beach ride in the evenings, because the beach is reserved for bathers during the day. Currently the excursion dates of the forest rides at the campsite are not yet known. However, you can reserve all your dune rides and beach rides at the Heemskerk stables! Historic walk 16,4km
Fancy a good walk with a generous dose of history? From the lovely tourist town of Castricum you can take this beautiful walk to the estate of Marquette. Back in Castricum the region's archaeological past is explained in Huis van Hilde. The route covers a distance of approximately 16.5 kilometres. You can also start this route from campsite Geversduin.
Archaeological Museum
Just before the route finishes, on the edge of Castricum, you'll find Huis van Hilde, a museum about the archaeology and cultural history of North Holland.
